THIS SCHOOL OF THOUGHT OFFERS A CREATIVE BLACK HISTORY LESSON AND A POWERFUL FASHION STATEMENT.
Philadelphia Printworks put a new spin on the term ‘Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The t-shirt company was founded to encourage a culture of activism and inclusion, and its School of Thought collection features black history heroes as founders of institutions of higher learning. The fashion line imagined schools grounded in the philosophies of Marcus Garvey, Audre Lorde, Ida B. Wells, Harriet Tubman, George Washington Carver and James Baldwin. One of our favorites ($38) proudly proclaims the existence Carver Agriculture University. Aptly named for the botanist and inventor who advocated for poor farmers to grow alternative crops to feed their families and improve their quality of life, George Washington Carver also developed and promoted 100 products made from peanuts. Check out their instagram for more than a 100 ways to sport this comfortable 50/50 cotton and polyester blend. Printworks represents the double consciousness experienced by African diaspora, and the School of Thought offers a creative black history lesson and a powerful fashion statement.
